Jilek, Dwight Wottrich, Tyler; Templeton, Karisa; Keogh, Cassie; Moe, Charlette; Law, William; Lee, Daniel; Weber, Michael; Brekke, Jeremy; +4 others Tyler (and Kelly, Bill), thank you for your work here! I fully support this letter and wish to be a part of it. I also fully support those who do not decide to sign on. The one point that isn’t listed below that may not NEED to be in the letter but should still be delivered in some way, is that our new colleagues should be a part of the director search and help shape/mold the process with their ideas. This is also a part of the general philosophy that John has spoken of multiple times, in “getting out of the way” and facilitating/encouraging/supporting the faculty to do their jobs and thrive in the spaces in which they work. This “faculty first” approach is grounded in the belief that the admin serves the faculty…not the other way around. An admin search that doesn’t allow for a full, immersive experience with faculty, staff, and students (since it is outside of the academic year) and does not include the thoughts, ideas, and vision of new faculty members is not in line with a faculty first approach. There is also no direct reference to having to work outside of our “duty days” of the academic year, but unless there is a clear breach of contract this may not be a first line of defense point. Still, the members on the search committee should be compensated for their extra time if it’s outside of the school year. Happy to help in any way. Thanks! Dwight
